Section 427.015, Florida Statutes, requires that the Metropolitan Planning Organization, as part of its Transportation Improvement Program “shall . . . identify transportation improvements that will be advanced with [transportation disabled] funds during the program period.” This requirement is reiterated in section 3(f)2.g of the Florida Department of Transportation directive 525-010-012-c ( “Transportation Improvement Program Development and Review”). The purpose of this section is to meet these requirements, and to reference, in a user-friendly format, transportation improvements to assist the safe and efficient transport of those citizens who need special services and facilities to obtain access to life-sustaining activities.
Explanation
The projects listed in this section do show funding amounts but no construction schedules. This is because the same projects are also listed in other sections of this document grouping projects by funding category. The items listed are referenced by the page number in which they appear in other TIP sections.
In addition, this section includes pedestrian facilities and sidewalks and some transit passenger amenities which, once completed, could enhance and facilitate usage by not only disadvantaged passengers but the public in general. This section does not include relevant improvements associated with larger transportation projects. Examples would include curb cuts and tactile surface treatments added onto sidewalks as part of an intersection widening and reconstruction, or wheelchair ramps and elevators included within the design of major facilities, as required by the 1991 Americans with Disabilities Act.
